The Caminito del Rey is a spectacular walkway built through the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes in the province of Málaga. Stretching for more than 3 kilometers, the path is attached to the cliffside inside a narrow gorge and suspended nearly 100 meters above the river below.
Over the years, the walkway fell into serious disrepair. Much of the route had no safety railings, several sections had collapsed, and in many places only the original support beams remained standing.
The route is linear rather than circular, following a one-way path from north to south. It begins in Ardales and ends in Álora. The full route is almost 8 km long and takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete.
In 2014, the Caminito del Rey underwent a complete restoration, with a new wooden walkway built along the route to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience.
